Phil Collins To Perform At Charity Concert In New York
According to the official Phil
Collins site: "The
worlds of music, fashion, and publishing are set to join forces once
again for a gala benefit dinner in New York City to support the
world-renowned City of Hope Medical Center. On November 13th, a host of
luminaries will be on hand to honor multi-platinum Atlantic recording
artist Phil Collins and Conde Nast Publications President and CEO
Steven T. Florio, who will be jointly presented with the Spirit of Life
award. The highlight of the event, which will take place at Cipriani on
42nd Street, will be a rare private concert by Phil Collins and
his band."
"The benefit will come just one day after the release of Collins'
new album for Atlantic Records, Testify. His first all-new solo
album in six years, it is also his first new music since the release of
his smash soundtrack for the Disney animated feature, Tarzan,
which earned Collins the triumphant triple crown of an Oscar, a Golden
Globe, and a Grammy in 2000. Collins has earned seven Grammy Awards and
sold 250 million albums around the world (as a solo artist and with his
former group, Genesis)." For the complete article, go to the official
Phil Collins site.

Genesis' The Way We Walk DVD Gets Commercial Distribution In The U.S.A.
On October 15th
According to CDNow,
Genesis' The Way We Walk DVD is finally getting commercially
distributed in the U.S. on October 15th through Pioneer. The great news about this is that the DVD
will have a retail list price of $24.98 U.S., which is significantly cheaper than getting the DVD from the official
Genesis site if you live in North America! Previously, this DVD cost something like $40 or $50
U.S. to buy, so this is a great deal! (WoG does
not control this sale and is not responsible for changes in price should
this sale end or change.)

Britney Spears, Madonna, Luciano Pavarotti and Phil Collins Join
Forces
No, these aren't guest artists on Phil Collins' new album, Testify
(thank God!). Reuters
reports that these musicians are just a few of the many artists that
will be participating in a new print and television advertising campaign
in the U.S. sponsored by the R.I.A.A. (Recording Industry Association of
America) attempting to deter people from stealing music through illegal
downloading from the Internet.
The TV advertisements will be shown
at a congressional hearing in Washington D.C. on piracy Thursday, but
will not be aired for a few weeks. The print portion of the campaign
will be launched Thursday with full-page ads in The New York Times,
Los Angeles Times and publications like Roll Call aimed at
lawmakers. The print ads ask the question, "Who Really Cares About
Illegal Downloading?," then answer it with a diverse list of nearly
90 major recording artists and songwriters, including Collins, Spears, Pavarotti, Madonna, Sting, Natalie Cole, Brian
Wilson, and many others.
As reported here back in August, Phil Collins experienced the
aggravation of Internet theft in a major way recently, when his
up-coming album, Testify, was illegally 'leaked' to illegal
downloading sites approximately 12 weeks before the albums official
commercial release.

Paul Carrack Announces New Single And Album On BBC Radio
In an interview yesterday with BBC Radio Newcastle, Paul Carrack shared
that his new single, "Where Did I Go Wrong," will be released in November with his new studio
album delayed until March 2003. Carrack also revealed that his last
album, Groovin, is being reissued under the new title Still
Groovin with bonus tracks. So, while we can look forward to lots of
new Carrack material, it appears that the likelihood of a new Mike &
The Mechanics project in the near future is bleak.
Paul will be interviewed on local BBC radio in the eastern counties of
England (such
as Radio Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, etc.) on the Steve Madden show 7-10 p.m.
(UK time) on Thursday, October 3rd.

Double Disc Version of Peter Gabriel Plays Live Coming Out In
The U.S.?
Well, that is what CDNow
would have us believe! According to the on-line music retailer, the
original double album will be released in the U.S. on CD with digital
remastering on October 1st. You can order it by clicking on the link
above, but beware. Amazon and other on-line retailers have no listing
for this item, so it could very well be a mistake. We'll keep you
posted! It would be a nice affordable way to get it remastered, since
the only current alternative (if you want the full double disc version)
is the Japanese
import in the limited edition LP style sleeve!

Peter Gabriel Called By "Unicorn Killer" As Character Witness
Ira Einhorn, who gave himself the alias of The Unicorn (and later became
known as 'The Unicorn Killer' by the media), was the subject of one of
the longest manhunts in the history of the modern world. Einhorn's legal
defense team called character witnesses yesterday in court, one of which
was Peter Gabriel. According to one source, Peter Gabriel
had, at one time, been part of a long list of names the District
Attorney reviewed before Einhorn's capture as possible leads from his
past. This list was comprised of
friends, colleagues, or supporters, who may innocently shelter and abet
Einhorn while he was on the run, not knowing he was wanted for murder. At this time, it is
uncertain whether or not Gabriel will take the stand in Einhorn's
defense.
Einhorn, a '70s activist based in the greater Philadelphia area,
allegedly murdered his then girlfriend, Holly Maddux. By the time the
body of Maddux was discovered, Einhorn had fled the country. By 1985,
Einhorn's trail lead investigators to Ireland, where Einhorn had gone by
the name of Ben Moore. By then, Einhorn had slipped away again and for
years the manhunt to capture Einhorn continued as law enforcement
followed leads across western Europe. Ira Einhorn, then going by the
alias of Eugene Mallon, was finally captured 16 years later in June 1997
in the south of France. The U.S. legal system fought through political
red tape and managed to get Einhorn back to the United States where he
is finally standing trial for the murder of Holly Maddux. For more on
Ira Einhorn's case, click here.

Mike Rutherford - This Is Your Life...
According to the official
Genesis website, Mike
Rutherford will be the subject of This Is Your Life on ITV (in
the UK) in the coming weeks. The program was recorded last Friday. Mike
was greeted outside the studio by Phil Collins dressed as (appropriately
enough) a mechanic before Michael Aspel presented the dreaded red book.
Apart from Phil, the show was attended by Tony Banks, Ant Phillips,
Steve Hackett, Daryl Stuermer, Bill Bruford and Chris Stewart. Peter
Gabriel, currently on tour, contributed via satellite. The Mechanics
were represented by B A Robertson and Paul Carrack. Manager Tony Smith
lurked in the background. Apart from the normal family members, etc.,
other contributors were racing driver and guitarist Damon Hill and
ex-Faces drummer Kenny Jones. Amongst others in the audience were
musical friends such as Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera, Procol Harum's Gary
Brooker and John Lodge from the Moody Blues.
The new series of This Is Your Life starts in mid-October and the
show should be one of the early ones.

Update on Steve Hackett From His Management
Steve Hackett's manager provided us with an update on Hackett's current
activity:
IN THE STUDIO:
"Steve's new studio is finally operational, and he's now working on
recording a new album." At this point, it is unknown when the new
project will be completed.
ON THE ROAD:
"Following on from their collaboration in performing Steve's piece
"The City In The Sea," he recently appeared again with Evelyn
Glennie at Belfast's Waterfornt Hall, guesting on her performance of
"Shadow Behind The Iron Sun."
"We've all enjoyed the acoustic shows and intend to continue with
them on an occasional basis rather than having to book a whole tour
every time. At the moment we have the following provisional dates
although these are not confirmed at the time of writing):"
20 Oct Trento (Titcovich Theatre?) (Italy)
28 Oct Valetta Manoel Theatre (Malta)
29 or 30 Oct Palermo (Sicily)
01 Nov Forli (Italy)
02 Nov Sardinia (Italy)
NEW RELEASES:
"The first of our DVD sets will be released around the end of
October/beginning of November and will be the Buenos Aires show. This
will be released as a single DVD in North America but the European
package will include the DVD and two audio CDs. In addition we'll also
be offering the audio CDs as a separate release available only
from the website and it's likely this will be in a double digipack
format. We're still trying to decide whether to issue the Buenos Aires
show in VHS format."
"After that, we'll probably release the Live acoustic show from
Budapest around January/February in the same way. In fact we may even
make the audio CDs of that one available (website only though) in
advance of the DVD."

expected that the documentary will run in the fall in conjunction with
the release of Collins' new solo album, Testify. The webmaster of
the official Genesis site
commented that the BBC documentary hit some "initial problems"
but is apparently going ahead. While the webmaster would not expand upon
that comment, one can only assume that there may have been some sort of
legal issues that needed to be dealt with before proceeding with the
project.
According to Fish's site, the documentary is expected to be released on
DVD by Sanctuary distribution in Europe following the airing of the
project. More information on the broadcast and the DVD will be posted
when available.

Peter Gabriel's OD2 Gets Closer To Becoming A Reality
According to BBC
News, the U.K. music retailer HMV is expected to announce that it
has reached a deal with Peter Gabriel's company, On Demand Distribution
(OD2), to offer almost 100,000 songs over the Internet for a monthly fee
of 4.99 U.K. pounds per month. OD2 was set up by Gabriel in 1999 to sell

good value to the consumer while combating the threat of illegal sharing
