Gabriel Announces His Feelings About Future Releases in 5.1
According to an article from Yahoo!
News, Peter Gabriel has declared that if he has his way, he will
record in only 5.1 surround sound from now on. He made the comments
Tuesday in London while promoting the November 3rd international release
of the best-of set HIT and the Growing Up Live DVD. As previously
reported, both items arrive the following day in North America.
Gabriel said the conventional stereo format has simply become
dissatisfying. "I will consider using 5.1 only in the future,"
he revealed. "Working in 5.1, including on film scores, is a new
discovery . It influences how you can use that capacity to shift sound;
you can get bolder moving sounds around the place." He added:
"I tend to use a lot of elements in my arrangements and often there
isn't enough space on stereo."

Anthony Phillips Release Announced For October 27th In Europe
According to the official
Anthony Phillips site, "Voiceprint
Records are reissuing the 1981 Mother Gong release Battle of the
Birds, which was previously only available as a cassette release
available via mail order and sold at gigs. The recording makes use
of Ant and Harry Williamson's 1978 recording of "Gypsy Suite"
(with additional flute parts by Didier Malherbe and oboe by Ant's
brother, Robin) as the backing music for Gilli Smyth's narration of the
story of the Battle of the Birds..."
The site added, "Just to be clear,
this CD essentially makes use of Ant and Harry's music as the backing
for the story and is not a "new" Ant release. Ant's
contribution to the recording is confined to his co-writing and playing
on "Gypsy Suite," which is available in it's original form on
the Gypsy Suite CD release" (Thanks to the official Phillips
site for this news!).
