Phil Collins Appears On The New Studio
Album By John Martyn
The newly released posthumous album by the late John Martyn,
Heaven and Earth, features a guest appearance by Phil Collins.
Martyn recorded the album in 2008, less than a year before passing away in
January 2009 of pneumonia. Collins added supporting vocals on John's cover
of the Collins' penned tune "Can't Turn Back the Years" (one of my personal
favorites from Collins' solo catalog) originally released on Phil's
Both Sides album. Producer Jim Tullio stated, “After John passed, I
spoke with Phil and he really wanted to sing on the track… [Phil] said he
had always wanted John to record one of his songs. You can hear the emotion
in their voices.” Collins and Martyn have collaborated in the past on albums
like Martyn's acclaimed
Grace and Danger and
No Little Boy.
