Peter Gabriel To Fight For Solsbury Hill
According to
The
Times, Peter Gabriel is fighting to help save the inspiration for
one of his most popular songs. The Woolley Valley, where Gabriel once lived,
is a mile from Bath and is supposedly protected land. Unapproved
construction on the property, which was sold a few years ago, now threatens
the sweeping landscapes of picturesque fields, winding lanes and natural
beauty of the legendary "Solsbury Hill".
Peter Gabriel commented that the area was
"one of the most beautiful valleys in the West of England." No stranger to
global or community activism, he will join a press conference to help
enforce the protection of the land on Wednesday. Almost every window and car
in the tiny village of Woolley displays a “Save Woolley Valley” poster.
Residents have a petition with 650 names and have raised “tens of thousands”
of pounds to fight a legal battle. Good luck to the residents of this
community on the saving of the land immortalized in Peter Gabriel's landmark
1977 debut album.

Peter Gabriel Site Implies Possible Live
Album And New Scratch My Back Tour Dates
The
official Peter Gabriel site's Tour Diary, in a recent posting, stated
the following in a blog about Gabriel's recent Los Angeles performance
"...Now for a short break before we get on with making a record of the
second half of the show. We all know it really well, so it's going to sound
fantastic. Then we can get ready for our possible new European dates in
September.." Perhaps we can look forward to much more than a few new tour
dates? It sounds like a live record is officially in the works!

Steve Hackett's Spectral Mornings
Finally Gets an NTSC release on DVD!
Well, it took about five years, but now North American and Japanese Steve
Hackett fans can finally enjoy Steve Hackett's
Spectral Mornings DVD, which was recorded live in concert on
November 8, 1978! The PAL DVD of this rare footage has been available since
2005, but even if you purchased the old PAL pressing, this new pressing will
still be of interest. Unlike the old PAL DVD which had the songs chopped up
in an alternate playing order, this new NTSC/Region 0 DVD is reported to
feature the tracks in their original running order for the first time ever
(of the complete performance)! The concert film, which was recorded at
Musikladen studio for German television, is probably the most pristine
footage that exists from early in Steve's solo career. Like the original PAL
disc, the DVD only offers stereo (no 5.1 surround channel).
The track listing:
Intro (excerpts from
Land Of A Thousand Autumns & Tigermoth)
Please Don't Touch
Racing In A / Ace Of Wands (closing section)
Carry On Up The Vicarage
Ace Of Wands
Narnia
Acoustic Section: Blood On The Rooftops / Horizons / Kim
Optigan / A Tower Struck Down / Spectral Mornings
Star Of Sirius
Shadow Of The Hierophant / Clocks - The Angel Of Mons
(Stereo, 16:9 Aspect Ratio, NTSC/Region 0)
