Phil Collins Wins Ivor Novello Award;
Confirm His Focus on Family Life
On May 22, 2008, Phil Collins received the prestigious
Ivor Novello
Award for International Achievement at the Grosvenor House Hotel in
London, England. During his acceptance speech, Collins acknowledged reports
that his focus is predominantly on his family rather than his music career
at this point in his life, as other reports stated recently. Whether or not
this truly means "retirement" is anyone's guess. I suppose only time will
tell. Other award winners at the event included: Amy Winehouse, Beyonce and
Shakira, Radiohead, David Gilmour and Diane Warren among others. |

Peter Gabriel Helps Start High Quality
"Lossless" Digital Download Site
According to the
Boston Herald, a deal struck between Peter Gabriel and digital
pioneer Bowers & Wilkins, Britain’s leading manufacturer of high-end
loudspeakers, is about to offer audiophiles an alternative.
Bowers & Wilkins Music Club will offer an exclusive,
full-length, digital-only new release each month featuring artists
cherry-picked by Gabriel and recorded at his Real World Studios complex in
Bath, England. What’s more, they will be so-called DRM-free (digital rights
management) files that carry no copy protection and can be moved freely
between devices and easily burned to CD. They’ll come complete with artwork
and, best of all, in an audiophile-quality lossless format for a sound
experience beyond that of even top-shelf mp3s.Music Club subscriptions

Amazon.com Withdraws Pre-Orders For
When In Rome Due To Wal-Mart Exclusivity Agreement with Genesis
Unfortunately, Amazon withdrew pre-orders for Genesis' forthcoming 3-DVD
set, When In Rome, today. The When In Rome title will still be
released on June 10th in the United States, but because of the exclusivity
agreement that Genesis' management signed with the U.S. retail chain
Wal-Mart, Amazon can no longer offer the title. If you pre-ordered the title
through Amazon.com in the USA, you will either need to purchase it at the
official Genesis
site, Wal-Mart stores in the United States, or through a Canadian
on-line retailer like
Amazon.ca (where the DVD is also NTSC/Region 1).
As previously reported, this has no impact outside of the United States.

Paul Carrack Announces New Single,
Album, and Up-Coming European Tour
Paul Carrack has revealed that he has been busy working on a new solo album
which is tentatively scheduled for release in the autumn of 2008 to coincide
with an extensive UK tour. It is stated that as many as 30 dates have
already been booked for Europe and will be announced shortly. Among the new
recordings is "Ain't No Love In The Heart of The City" which Paul recorded
in Nashville, Tennessee with acclaimed producer Peter Collins. The track
includes a horn section, strings, and is reportedly a really lush all-around
production. The single is expected to be released as soon as June or July.
Carrack reports that the CD single will include non-album Carrack tunes like
"If you Believe In Me" from the Sharon Stone film Beautiful Joe, and
his re-working of the classic Genesis song "Your Own Special Way" as heard
on Steve Hackett's
Genesis Revisited (also released as Watcher of The Skies: Genesis
Revisited in North America). More news on the single, album, and tour

Genesis' Management Signs Exclusivity
Deal With Wal-Mart For New DVD in the U.S.
The official Genesis
site has confirmed that Genesis' management has just signed an
exclusivity deal with the discount retail chain Wal-Mart to the sole rights
to carry Genesis' forthcoming 3-DVD set, When in Rome, in the United
States. According to the site, this will mean that other retail chains
(including Amazon which was linked on this site) will be canceling those
pre-orders people have made as a result of this new deal, because they will
not be permitted to stock the title. Please note that as of right now,
Amazon in the U.S. has not removed the link to pre-order When In
Rome and there is a possibility that they may carry the Canadian 3-DVD
pressing, which will work in all of North America (Canada is
apparently not part of the Wal-Mart deal). More information on this when I
get it. The release of When In Rome in the rest of the world is
completely unaffected by this deal with Wal-Mart.

is not fully functioning as the staff from Real World attempt to resurrect
