Early Proposed Track
Listing for Genesis Live 1972-2007 Box Set Sparks Some Controversy
Among Fans
As rumored, the forthcoming first Genesis live box tentatively scheduled for
release this fall will not be available in SACD format anywhere in the world
according to Nick Davis, the band's long-time producer and engineer. Davis
also revealed that the box includes Live, Seconds Out, a
selection of five songs from the Genesis live performance at the Shrine in
1975 on The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour, and a complete 1973 live
performance from the Rainbow on the Selling England By the Pound
tour. Those performances will be in newly remixed stereo and 5.1 surround
sound (in CD+DVD format). Unfortunately, the complete 1973 performance will
only be available on DVD. The compact disc version of the 1973 performance
will be edited to omit some material from the performance due to the
limitations of disc space. Davis also added that Three Sides Live,
The Way We Walk, and Live Over Europe would be available as
stereo only titles (no surround sound option available). Three Sides Live
would offer a newly remixed stereo version, The Way We Walk would be
returned to the original set list order from the tour (as opposed to sorting
the albums as they were initially released) with three added bonus tracks
and newly remixed stereo, and Live Over Europe would be the version
that is currently available in stores. This box would also allegedly not
include any video, unlike the prior box sets highlighting the studio albums:
1970-1975, 1976-1982, and 1983-1998.
Many fans made their disappointment known publicly on the
official Genesis site's forum about
a lack of Collins or Wilson era non-album live tracks, a lack of 5.1
surround sound for Three Sides Live, The Way We Walk, and
Live Over Europe, and so on. Davis reported back on the forum that he
has taken the fan's feedback to the band's management and it will be
considered. Davis also reported back that the band's management is in
discussion with the record company to exclude Live Over Europe from
the box set, leaving an empty slot to put the existing stereo only CD
version into it (instead of making people who bought Live Over Europe
last year when it was released, purchased it again). Clearly, some of these
details are still being worked out and any of this could be subject to
change. Details will be posted when confirmed, but as this process continues
through June, it makes me wonder how likely the proposed September release
date may be?
