Mike Rutherford Returns to
the Studio For Possible New Solo Project
Nick Davis, Genesis' long time engineer and producer, confirms that Mike
Rutherford has returned to the studio to work on material that may become a
new solo project of some kind. Not much is known at this time about Mike's
work other than the fact that he is working with some new artists. In a
separate interview, former Mike & The Mechanics member Paul Carrack eluded
to the fact that Mike Rutherford was working on a new project without him.
Speculation continues as to whether or not this potential studio work will
evolve into a newly revamped Mike & The Mechanics or something entirely
different. I suppose only time will tell. More details be posted here when
confirmed.

SPV/Inside Out Records
Files For Bankruptcy
According to
Billboard, SPV/Inside Out Records, home of the majority of the Ray
Wilson solo catalog, the last two Stiltskin albums, and some of the more
recent Steve Hackett albums, has filed for bankruptcy. There is no word at
this point about how this might impact the availability of these albums. If
the company goes under, obviously, they will no longer be available through
SPV. Among the titles that may be impacted are Wilson's
Live & Acoustic,
Change,
The Next Best Thing, and
Live; Stiltskin's
She and
Live; and Steve Hackett's
Wild Orchids and
Metamorpheus among others.

Red 7 Project Featuring
Mike Rutherford Scheduled to be Reissued This Month!
Renaissance Records in North America is reissuing the 1985 self-titled album
by Red 7 featuring Mike Rutherford in July. Mike's contributions include
backing vocals on "The Way" (along with Geoff Callingham and Dale Newman),
playing bass and guitars on a few tracks, and producing the album. The
project, recorded at Genesis' studio, The Farm, in Surrey, England,
also includes two tracks co-produced by Don Gehman known for his work with
bands like REM and Hootie and The Blowfish. The liner notes even offer a
nice explanation of how Mike got involved in the project. Of course, Mike
and The Mechanics fans should also note that Red 7's Gene Stashuk sang lead
vocals along with Paul Young and Paul Carrack on the first self-titled Mike
and the Mechanics album in 1985. The pre-order information should be
available shortly.
