New Peter Gabriel Book
Released This Month
From Genesis to Growing Up is a new hardback book on the career of
Peter Gabriel released this month by Ashgate Publishing. This collection
documents and critically explores the most central themes found in Gabriel's
work. These are divided into three important conceptual areas arising from
Gabriel's activity as a songwriter and recording artist, performer and
activist: 'Identity and Representation', 'Politics and Power' and
'Production and Performance.' The book was put together by Dr. Michael
Drewett, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, Rhodes University, South
Africa; Dr. Sarah Hill, Lecturer in Music, University of Southampton, UK;
and Kimi Karki, Research Fellow, Department of Cultural History, University
of Turku, Finland. Much like the Ashgate publishing Genesis book,
Genesis and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, these books offer a
different perspective from your garden variety biography. Check them out!

Coming This Week!
Be sure to stop back to World of Genesis.com this week for two new contests!

our recent
interview with photographer Richard Haines. One lucky winner will get a
full-sized 10" x 12" Genesis photo of the winner's choice from Richard's
exclusive collection - signed by Richard himself! If you want to check out

Mechanics Fans: Paul Young
Solo Album Slated For Spring 2011 Release!
In addition to the Japanese Sad Cafe mini LP sleeve remasters announced late
last year (available in the WOG
on-line shop) and the reissue of the Loz Netto album (see below), Paul
Young fans have even more news to celebrate in 2011!
According to the webmaster of the
official Sad Cafe site, some of the final and never-before-released
recordings of late Mike and the Mechanics singer Paul Young (who died of a
heart attack in July 2000) are tentatively scheduled for a spring 2011
release. The vocals were recorded by Paul between 1998 and 1999 for a new
album he was working on with Alistair Gordon (who Genesis fans are likely
familiar with from Tony Banks' 1989 Bankstatement album).
| After his passing, these songs were thoughtfully completed by members of
Paul's former band, Sad Cafe, including Ian Wilson, Des Tong, Dave Irving,
Ashley Mulford and Lenni. The album also features Mechanics band-mates Mike
Rutherford and Paul Carrack. Of the songs with Rutherford and Carrack is
a familiar song re-recorded and reworked for this album and the other is
completely unreleased. In total, 16-tracks were completed for this
project, 13 of which will likely make the final album. The album is
called
Chronicles and can be pre-ordered now! |

Apparently, many other tracks remain in the Young family archive including
17 tracks recorded with Frank Renshaw in the early 1970s, which were
intended at the time for a follow up to the Young & Renshaw album. In
addition, there are approximately 8 outtakes and alternate versions of Sad
Cafe tracks. Hopefully, most of these gems will see the light of day in the
future along with some of the early solo singles Young recorded earlier in his
career.
