Allen Sides Remastered Titles From The Phil Collins Back Catalog In
5.1 Surround
Reliable sources report that Allen Sides, an accomplished Engineer and
Producer, has remixed several of the Phil Collins back catalog titles in
5.1. Sides, who resides in California, has worked with Phil Collins in
the past on both the Testify album and also on The Songs West
Side Story tribute project. Sides participated in the 5th
annual Surround Sound Conference and Showcase in Beverly Hills,
California, where he led a Master Class on his experiences with Phil
Collins and surround sound technology on December 11th. Sides work on
the 5.1 reissues has been further verified by Mix
Magazine, who acknowledged Allen Sides involvement with Collins'
back catalog remixes in surround earlier in the year.
Phil Collins reportedly mentioned in an interview for Dutch radio that But
Seriously, No Jacket Required and Face Value would be
the first titles to be released in this format (of course, that may be
subject to change). One can only assume that Genesis long-time
Engineer/Producer Nick Davis was not involved with the remixing process
due to the demands of remixing the Genesis catalog in 5.1. More on this
will follow in the new year.

Genesis' The Lamb is Mixed in 5.1 and Trick of The Tail Is
Next
According to a post by Genesis producer/remaster guru Nick Davis, the
5.1 surround sound mix of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was
completed in December and work will begin in the new year on the 5.1 mix
of Trick of The Tail. The order to which the Genesis catalog is
being remixed has changed several times, so stay tuned for updates!

Phil Collins Makes Guest Appearances on Three New Projects
If you just can't get enough Phil Collins, there are three (relatively)
new projects you can pick up. The first is the latest release from the
Silvano Bazan Trio,
I Wish I Knew. This jazz group enlisted the help of Phil
Collins on "Teach Me Tonight" in which Phil sings lead vocals.
You can also get more Phil material on the new Robert Plant set, Sixty
Six To Timbuktu. The 2-CD set includes a disc of Plant's
"hits" and a disc of rarities. Among the rarities are
" Road To The Sun" and "Philadelphia Baby" from an
unreleased Rockfield studio session in 1983 and, of course, he played
drums on "Big Log" on the hits disc (although uncredited).
Lastly, you can get even more PC on the new Shankar album, One In A
Million.

Update on Tony Banks' Classical Project
The forthcoming Tony Banks classical album is reportedly to be released
on the Naxos label. Nick Davis, who worked with Banks in the studio, had
this to say about the project on the official
Genesis site, "I listen to it a lot, as I think it is
fantastic. It is a genuine classical album not a 'pseudo rock classical'
piece. It reminds me at times of bits of Vaughan Williams and
Mussorgsky. There are seven movements on the album. It has been mixed in
5.1 though we are not releasing it like this initially." More on
this album will follow soon!
